You don’t have to step back anymore, we are in this together and Ayurveda has discovered ways to cure the issue from the root itself.

What Does Recurrent Miscarriage Mean?

A woman who had 3 or more miscarriages in a row falls under the category of recurrent miscarriage. But as per the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)recurrent pregnancy loss has two or more pregnancy losses. There are various reasons behind recurrent pregnancy which are explained below:

Causes Of Recurrent Miscarriage

As per ayurveda excessive heat inside the body due to pitta dosha is the main cause of failure of implantation of the fetus and thus won’t let the baby survive inside the womb. As per sushruta acharya pitta is the main cause for abortion.

As per Charaka acharya abortion in Ayurveda is vitiated vata (apana vayu) Intake of ruksha aahar vihar causes the imbalance of vata dosha. The vitiated vata again and again destroys the baby developed from vitiated aartava (menstrual flow). So the ayurvedic treatment for recurrent abortion includes vata shamak chikitsa.

Hence vitiated vata and pitta both are responsible for recurrent abortion.
This formation of the fetus takes place quickly but due to vitiated aartava it is not nourished properly. When a female consumes dry food the vata dosha gets aggravated which results in bleeding. Bleeding thus destroys the garbha.

Genetic cause

Abnormal chromosomes are one of the reasons behind the recurrent pregnancy loss, which might be passed on by either one of the partners. They might affect the uterus, sperm or eggs and are sometimes caused due to environmental factors.

Uterine anomalies

When the uterine fails to form properly which is formed between 8 and 16 weeks of fetal development it leads to uterine abnormalities that are congenital (present at birth). There are various types of uterine anomalies which includes.

Hormonal imbalances

If the uterine lining doesn't develop normally for implantation and nourishment of a fertilized egg it may lead to hormonal imbalances. Uncontrolled diabetes or thyroid disease are known to increase a woman’s risk of miscarriage. .

Immune system disorders

Antibodies made by a person's immune system are termed Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) which is an autoimmune disorder. This is associated with repeated miscarriages and fetal deaths.

Torch Infection:

TORCH (Toxoplasmosis, rubella cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex, and HIV) is a huge cause of recurrent miscarriage. Many people are aware about being torch positive but are unaware of the fact that this is a big reason for recurrent miscarriage.

Abortion

Abortion which is something we all are aware of is the loss of baby in the mother’s womb and in technical term is the termination of pregnancy. There are many different causes of abortion but the care to be taken after an abortion or any miscarriage is similar.

Treatment of recurrent miscarriage/ abortion in Ayurveda

Although treatment and herbs to be given will vary from case to case and will be suggested after proper tests and reports of the patient. Here are various panchakarma procedures that will give quick & effective results for miscarriage patients.

Virechana (Detoxification):

Virechana (purgation) helps in treating TORCH (Toxoplasmosis, rubella cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex, and HIV) infection and elimination of antibodies thus leads to neuro- endocrinol’s proper functioning.
In most of the cases females dealing with recurrent abortion have symptoms of acidity, excessive body heat and other gastric problems which is the result of excessive pitta dosha. Virechana is performed to take out body impurities (excessive pitta) and toxins. This cleaning procedure is performed in the small intestine and in other parts of where pitta is present. Virechana is considered one of the most effective treatments in improving the heavy menstrual cycle, hormonal imbalances.

Basti:

As per ayurveda vata dosha plays an important role in causing recurrent abortion. And basti is an ardha chikitsa for vata dosha. Basti is considered to be an effective method of Panchakarma by ayurveda when dealing with recurrent pregnancy loss. Basti chikitsa is found to be very effective for recurrent miscarriages and curing other the infertility issue. In this procedure enema having herbal oil or decoction is released through Rectum and this increases the ovulation in females on a regular basis. Basti helps in regulating our hormonal access.

Uttar Vasti

This is a procedure to strengthen the reproductive system of a female & gives effective results. Uttarbasti helps in providing favorable conditions for the baby’s growth and hence reducing the acidic heat inside the uterus of the mother. In uttarbasti we insert kadha, ayurvedic oils and herbs inside the uterus. Uttarbasti is a specialized practice in ayurveda. Uttarbasti is an effective practice performed on women dealing with recurrent miscarriage and it provides effects on the uterus and ovaries, it breaks down the cyst formed in the ovaries more correctly and without any side effects as compared to oral medications.

Raktamokshana

Raktamokshana is an effective blood purification therapy, in which carefully controlled removal of small quantities of blood is conducted to neutralize accumulated Pitta doshas which results in recurrent abortion.

Oral Medications:
Garbha Sthapana drugs
phala sarpi
ashokarishta
Kshmaryadi ghrit
Pippalyadi yoga
Vrishkadi churna
Shatavari ghrita
Udumbaradi tael
Ashwagandha
Shatavari kalpa
kushmanda rasayana
Vidaryadi Ghritham

Ayurveda recommended diets for preventing miscarriage

* Fermented Products are said to be avoided like yogurt, cheese, sour cream; hot seasonings such as chili pepper and cayenne; sour fruits such as grapefruits, berries and apricots as they lead to improper digestion and constipation.
* Food items which lead to increased heat in the body are suggested to be avoided.
* Fruits which can be harmful to the growing fetus like papaya and pineapple must be avoided.
* Something which is safe to consume is boiled water and biscuits so carry them while you are going out.

Abortion or miscarriage in both the cases the pain caused might be visible in the form of physical suffering but the torture caused is deep and can only be felt by the one who is going through it. So if you need to have a healthy pregnancy do not hesitate to contact an ayurvedic doctor because we treat from the root and the cause when cured from root is a cause which will lose its recurrent nature.
