Does UttarBasti Cause Pain?

Uttarbasti is a totally painless procedure and thus it doesn't require any type of anesthesia since it is a small procedure which is hardly carried out for 15 to 20 minutes. After the stopping of the menstrual cycle it is to be done after 3 to 6 days depending upon the condition. Hence uttarbasti could be performed along with our regular activities.

Procedure:

It is an OPD based procedure
Medicated oil or decoction is introduced into the urinary bladder with the help of a rubber catheter through the urethral opening under aseptic conditions.

Preoperative procedures of Uttarbasti:

After a patient has gone through the procedure they must ensure taking light diet and must avoid doing these things:

  • Abhyanga (Massage): Therapeutic massage is done for 10 minutes on the patient’s hypogastric Region, lower back and flanks. This helps relax the pelvic organs.
  • Swedana (Hot Fomentation): After abhyanga swedana is performed on the patient for 10 minutes on the same parts on which abhyanga is done with the use of a hot water bag. This helps to relieve stiffness and pain from the pelvic region. Both these procedures help to increase blood supply of the pelvic organs to some extent and hence this helps in absorption of the injected drug. These two procedures also help to relieve the pain during the whole procedure.
  • Yoni Prakshalan (Vaginal Douching): It is mainly done with Nimba Kwatha and Panchvalkal Kwath. This practice helps to maintain asepsis prior to uttar basti and eventually decreases the risk of any ascending infection to the patient during the procedure.

Important Steps To Be Performed Before Uttarbasti
